An unsuccessful div2 and a deleted ETF2L account.

Not exactly what started the world wars, but it’s enough to shake up our friendly neighborhood TF2. I don’t know much about running a league, what I do know is that it’s a mammoth task. It’s about creating a fair framework for a few thousand different people. I also know it’s literally hours of ungrateful, unpaid work every day.

I don’t want to take away the discussion of league formats, nor the discussion of an admin team’s decisions. But I would like to ask for a more constructive approach than to flock up on working out who was wrong. Because, let’s face it: Being right is nowhere near as important getting right.

Summer league was an experiment. It was at the time a way of trying to reach a compromise between some highly polarized opinions on “what’s next”. Regardless of the actual league failing or not, as an experiment it’s a success. An experiment that will help us getting it right the next Summer. In between, there’s still almost half a Summer League left with interesting action going on in 5 other divisions.

Like I said, I don’t know much about running a league… And I can’t judge the quality of decisions behind the scenes. But I am grateful that people dedicate time and effort to this game we all love, people such as the admin team at ETF2L.

So how about it boys and girls, what have you done for TF2? And more importantly, what can you do in the time to come?

I’d like to round off this small rant with a retrospective to a poll we asked before the AFS started.

What do you think about the new Summer league?

(And for the record, Coldfront wasn’t that fucking bad once I played it with a proper team)
