Update: TLR are “90% sure” they will sign up.
A few of us caught a glimpse of the last ESEA lan finals in Texas a while ago. For those who don’t know what ESEA is, put simple it’s the US equivalent of our own ETF2L UKeSA. Seeing how much attention Euro vs Yank games get, a clever head over at Blight,
Blackfoger got in touch with the hope of getting more of those games going.
It’s by far the best league you will ever play in. Matches will be fairly easy to schedule on NY servers. It will get your team HUGE coverage going, as well its fairly cheap registration for good prize pool. Help TF2 out big, EU players and USA watching, grow the community.
Blackfoger is currently in talks with Dignitas, TCM, Broder, and Idk? to try and get teams to sign up for the upcoming season 7. Illegal are said to be confirmed already. Here are some of the facts:
- Signups end: August 27th, matches start the week after
- Winners receive: $2 000
- Signup fee: $50
- Games start 5-7pm EST /0-2am CEST
- Top4 teams play the finals in Texas
You can head over to ESEA to get cracking.
Update: As seen in comments, the Complexity team doctor,
Pure adds his thoughts on the premise:
I really would not recommend this. The only way we can play at your time is by playing on Sundays at 2-4 pm If you are going to try and do this do not speak with Blackfoger, he is full of lies when it comes to stuff like this. Love the man though. No teams play matches at 6-8 pm EST, and only coL players tend to play around Midnight. We will definitely make considerations about time, like you have with us in the Ubercharge Tournament.
I wouldn’t enter your team, I would put together 2 mix teams of people who have schedules flexible enough to stay up late or get up early.

- # - nice! +0esea isn’t the us equivalent of etf2l at all.
- # - nice! +4Signup fee: 50$
:D
- # - nice! +0ok real quick sign up fee is $10 on august 27th per person aka $50 per team area and each month theres premium fee’s
- # - nice! +0it’s blackfoger btw :D
also, as a yank i can say that esea is our biggest league, and if 50 teams do not sign up for open then esea will no longer be signing up for tf2, so sign up to support tf2 (maybe some yank teams will support future euro endeavours in return)
- # - nice! +1i’m all for supporting TF2, but it is extremely unlikely that any euro team that finishes top 4 will be able to make it to texas.
Good luck though, $10 per person isn’t too bad.
- # - nice! +1i geuss i wouldn’t mind forming a mix team if i can’t get a proper team going. Whatever helps. Noway going to texas though :D
- # - nice! +0Same as swifty tbh,
Although thats like CET -6, could be awkward timewise. £7 is hardly an inordinate amount of money.
- # - nice! +0To warn y’all, it’s going to go to 4 AM CEST
And there are league fees
And I dont even know if there is a NY esea server
- # - nice! +0the league fee is $10 per person and then you have to play $7 per month for premium accounts for the duration of the league (3 months, 4 with playoffs)
add in the fact that i can think of about 4 people in north america who’d be willign to accomodate “5-7 pm EST” games…
- # - nice! +2no thx
- # - nice! +0mmm…
- # - nice! +0fuyanks come back please
- # - nice! +1i like unicorn
- # - nice! +2‘wanna play vs yanks’
no
- # - nice! +0We get 50 teams dropping from AFS every 14minutes here in the EU so if you can’t get 50 US teams to sign up… then fuck.. tf2 must be on its arse in the states.
- # - nice! +1Sure, I so much want to pay to play with shit pings. Seriously, if you don’t have 50 NA teams, then TF2 is already dead. I mean, we’ve had 50 team seasons in the french league, without all the teams signing up.
- # - nice! +0I think is was just an offer for the best of europe teams. So no french allowed x
- # - nice! +0I’m not getting up 4am to play this game again. It was horrible and pointless when TF2 had the chance to get big, now it would just feel stupid.
- # - nice! +1Why would they want this, its not like they are going to Texas, even if they do finish top4
- # - nice! +0summary from reading on gotfrag: total league fee is 25$ per player and american teams dont seem willing to play at euro friendly times
- # - nice! +0oh and fragga going on a anti-eu rant again
- # - nice! +0im up for US mixteam!
- # - nice! +0STV??
- # - nice! +0We have a lot more than 50 teams, but there’s only 50 teams willing to pay a total of $125 in league fees.
And to clarify, ESEA is *not* the etf2l of NA. ESEA is the UKESA of NA.
- # - nice! +0fenty shutup…
also, it’s not that the US can’t get 50 teams, it’s that they can’t get 50 teams for esea. for cevo (which has a free league) we get over 200 teams. because of the cost, many lower level teams do not sign up for esea.
- # - nice! +0“Update: TLR are “90% sure” they will sign up.”
“0-2am CEST”
The 10% will keep me in bed.
- # - nice! +0Advantages: N/A
- # - nice! +0Disadvantages: cost, we are 5-6 hours ahead, you have to put up with 150+ ping etc…
hey man don’t forget about the advantage of all that publicity and advertisement you get by existing in esea-tf2 the tf2 division known worldwide by players of all games
- # - nice! +0fuck up DJC
- # - nice! +0It’s strange that someone from the US even knows that Europe exists :-)
- # - nice! +0I will probably ping better at 4am at night playing vs yanks than vs euros anway so sounds good to me… :(
- # - nice! +0“Advantages: N/A
Disadvantages: cost, we are 5-6 hours ahead, you have to put up with 150+ ping etc…”
Advantages: Supporting tf2 (lol), Playing against different teams with different playstyles, More important games, Meet new people and learn new stuff
- # - nice! +0I really would not recommend this. The only way we can play at your time is by playing on Sundays at 2-4 pm

- # - nice! +2<3 pyyyour
- # - nice! +0to be honest the ping problem is a bit bullshit; atleast for me. an east coast server hosted by AG (amazing servers, best i’ve played on) ping me averagely around 100, going from 95 to 105 sometimes. after a couple of games you really have only a tiny disadvantage as a soldier. bit bigger as a demoman, but still; not a huge problem. we all know nades are for pussies anyway, real men use up all their stickies on mid :x
i’ve never played on a NY server by the way; east coast wa always pennsylvania i think. if NY pings better then there really is no bother except the huge time difference and the fact that its ESEA servers so all my arguments are invalid
- # - nice! +0…
fuck ESEA then
tiny disadvantage :)
- # - nice! +1glad to play the div1 teams with my allstar dream team
- # - nice! +0Like Pyour said before me, the scheduling is the biggest concern here. It’s not that we don’t want to play at euro-friendly times, it’s that we can’t with a lot of our players are still college and having to be in work when it’s 22:00 in the UK.
I’m still looking forward to see the outcome of the next season.
- # - nice! +1itty bitty lil disadvantage darn. unless youre an airshot god who hits every single one its more fun to not attempt airshots and do groundshots, more efficient even if it feels dirty :x
- # - nice! +0Would be cool but, I don’t think that EU teams will stay up for matches, unless they want to wake up @ 5-7am. It’s same from NA aswell because most of the people can’t get online around 14-15 to play versus euro teams (which is usualy +6/7 hours).
And about the finals at lan, even if an EU team will make it, it will cost a load shit of money just to get there + accommodation (and maybe the visa thing, but it might only apply for some countries I think).
Anyways even if EU teams sign up there will still be a problem. They told us:
Quote
“Lastly, as promised, we will be completely dropping all support for TF2 for Season 7, but there’s a catch. We’ve worked hard to address the many issues and suggestions TF2 players have had with our services including Client update response time (we’re down to an average of roughly 45 minutes), scrim servers (in public testing), as well as an Intermediate division. We’ve done our part, now it’s up to the community to man up, stop whining, and save TF2 on ESEA themselves. ESEA TF2 Season 7 will only happen if at least 50 TF2 Open teams are paid by the close of registration. ”
Good luck , but I ain’t see this happening
- # - nice! +1Would be nice to play if someone fixed the schedule.
- # - nice! +0It’ll never happen.
- # - nice! +0ESEA sucks anyway, just get the good teams together and decide on a different lan to all go to, and go play cevo online. Simples.
