If you don’t care for of narcissism, nostalgia, self righteousness or admin abuse, stop reading right this instant. Because, I know few acts as self absorbed and inappropriate (aside from releasing a trailer to a frag movie) as writing your own obituary…And that’s just what I’m gonna do, right here on my own public service site.

Because as of today, Broder (formally known as 7 brothers who aren’t brothers) ceases to exist as an active team in TF2.

TF2 was my first team based game, and Broder my first go at building a team. Its foundation materialized from promising players of div3 and div2, merging 2 old [surprisingly different] establishments, Resistansen and Hboda. Parenting the merger wasn’t without sacrifice, be it working hours on hours to make a movie, negotiating avatars, or learning to speak a new language.

Another part of that TF2 parenthood was to try and understand the people behind the players. And in what follows, a final grace to my (former) brothers.

Macisum

You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat others. And with the way Maci treats his team mates, he is undeniably comfortable in his own skin. Always in a good mood, laughing and playful. If you gave Maci a ball, he would probably entertain himself for hours. He’s Winnie the Pooh, loyal to the bitter end. I have only one regret with Broder and that was drilling him too hard on tactical play.

And essentially, broder’s last nail in the coffin come from seeing how much he enjoyed himself with K1ck. It was time to make amends with my tough behavior, and let this beautiful mind go out and play!

Weqo

A lonewolf by nature, weqo is like a coin up arcade. You insert coins and he plays a game of machine like talent. He’s reliable, is there on time and does what he sets off to do. Before Assembly, he told me about how he couldn’t sleep because he was thinking about “the tournament”. But it wasn’t Assembly, nor TF2…It was about some random game called Warsow. In the end, we ran out of coins to keep this machine going any longer.

Sneis

Going home from Assembly, I made the mistake of knocking on his hotel door 45 minutes before checkout, waking him up. He gave me the silent treatment the rest of the day, wonderfully oblivious to what pain in the ass he was himself just a few days earlier – When he woke me up by jumping on my food poisoned stomach, with a shaving machine in his hand. Not the best birthday present I’ve ever received. Situations like those describe Sneis perfectly: Spontaneous, creative…restless, draining.

…But also well meaning, considerate and initiating. A passionate soul that came home from South America, changed to soldier and turned to be one of Europe’s best in the matter of months. If he finds rest in that soul, he’ll make either a team or a woman very happy. Carrot cake.

Fanva

I’ve used the word “integrety” before this week, a word particularly true for Fanva. A loyal trooper who would take the care to warm up before games and practice to keep up with the new level we were playing at. A friend of the night, the guy that would always stay on mumble even if no one else was there. In a change of life situations, discouraged from computer games, he’s not there anymore. I hope he’ll someday return.

Wltrs

Perhaps the scout I’ve hated the most to play against, known for sick aim but little team communications. It came as a big surprise when he, one of Europes absolute best scouts, came to me, a humble medic, to ask me to help him with positional play. But, as we got to know this mythical creature, it’s all quite natural really. He didn’t get good without reason, Wltrs would always be the first to start practice, to schedule games, even to schedule strategy sessions. A loyal player, friend and in my honest opinion, the best fucking scout in Europe.

Berserker

An eccentric, mensa-smart (literally), math major. A rational thinker, a happy person, a rare talent. Being rational, he made the correct choice by focusing on school.

Honorable mentions

Appe, helped us through a tough Summer.
Braffle, a founding member, but couldn’t continue due to bad internet.
Codcrille, weirdest guy alive.
Skre, played 1 pcw.

I’d like to thank them all for putting up with me.

In the end, we got a selection of choices. But ultimately, a team without Fanva, Sneis and Weqo just wouldn’t be Broder.

Maci is now playing with K1ck. Wltrs has been away the past days, possibly in the shape of a demoman (knowing him, he’ll probably become superior in that class too). Sneis and Weqo should be up for some non-binding grunt work.
