The concept is simple. 6 on 6 TF2, but with no Scouts, Soldiers, or Demomen to be seen. Your first reaction may well be, to quote
atrox_, “Sounds retarded,” but think about it for a second or two and hopefully you’ll realise just how fun it can be. The prototype `test´ match was a success and greatly enjoyed by all. The format of the tournament (including maps) will depend on the number of teams, but the winners will each become owners of a coveted Lo-Fi Longwave, courtesy of our friends at KritzKast. (Come on, we all know nothing is more valuable than hats!).
With YoYoTech already in it to win it and VanillaTV set to cast thanks to
Comedian, the competition looks fierce for what’s sure to be the most terribly serious event you’ll see this autumn!

TweetShould’ve done this during the summer tbh. The seasons are about to start and I doubt any reasonable team (apart from YYT who plays in everything :D ) will sign up because they need the practice hours in the evenings.
Nonetheless, sounds like an amazing cup to spectate! Great idea Trent ^^
- # - nice! +6The idea wasn’t around back then else I definitely would have, mate. Also, kudos to KritzKast for Tempest being mildly drunk and thus, inspiration.
I’m going to be publicising the event via KritzKast and the SPUF as well, it’s not just for the hardcore competitive community like us or around VanillaTF2 ;D
- # - nice! +0gonna try force Infused into this :P p.s. shotgun sniper
- # - nice! +3way too many heavies :<
- # - nice! +3Signed up, incoming huntsman spam
- # - nice! +1lawwwl, you actually paid attention to something I said?
oh you
- # - nice! +0“SNIEPURR TIEM” – TviQ
- # - nice! +4True Story
- # - nice! +1Sounds retarded :D I would sign up if I could play…
- # - nice! +1Madness and genius XD
- # - nice! +2I’d like to play this ^^ If anyone needs a merc i’m up for it!
- # - nice! +1If anyone wants to merc, wants to make a mix team, or needs a merc, use #pubcomp on QuakeNet.
- # - nice! +0pretty fun play style :)
- # - nice! +2<- spy lf team xD
- # - nice! +2Is the cup the same day as the signups end?
- # - nice! +0Will probs make a mix seems like it will be a laugh.
I doubt it. There was no way to know beforehand how popular this would be, but with 11 teams signed up and plenty looking for one in just a few hours, there’s no way this is going to be a one-night-cup.
- # - nice! +0I understand why soldier, demoman and scout are removed.
They are probably the most played classes and are apt at attacking and defending but keeping the heavy?
Even with one they are still extremely OP and a decent one could easily wipe out the enemy team as long as he spychecks and avoids snipers.
- # - nice! +2I don’t think I would worry about the Heavy. Since he will be needed for sentry nests and any good spy can take out any good heavy with relative ease.
- # - nice! +1Exactly. The Heavy is of course powerful and a hub of the team, but we found in the test match that with the proliferance of spies, snipers, and sentries the Heavy wasn’t OP at all.
- # - nice! +2fyi, a good heavy (read good as actually knows how to play heavy properly and can aim v well) shuts down spies really easily. Just depends how distracted he gets
- # - nice! +0<- sniper lft
- # - nice! +0I don’t understand the decisions behind the whitelist.
- # - nice! +0Not even going to beat around the bush here, I don’t see what the point is. It’s not like we’re trying out things that are banned in 6v6. All of these (except the unlock) are allowed in 6v6. It’s not like there was some anti-fun police who decided “we should play with 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, 1 demo, 1 med”. It’s just that after a lot of trying things out on release, the whole scene arrived at a general consensus that this was the best class layout. There is absolutely nothing to stop anyone from making a team for etf2l this season, and trying out really weird class layout… aside from the fact that they will get absolutely smashed by any half competent team playing “standard”.
Fair enough if its just a bit of fun, but it’s not really competitive TF2.
- # - nice! +1It’s just for fun as I understand it. Don’t see the issue. It may just end up with new players realising/understanding why 6v6 is played with soldiers, scouts and demomen.
- # - nice! +2Fun AND educational!
Exactly, hence all the tongue-in-cheek sarcasm about it being “the most terribly serious event this autumn”, Skyride.
- # - nice! +0Having said that, tviq will prove me wrong by destroying everyone as sniper..
- # - nice! +1more than enough, CU ON
- # - nice! +2Signups have shot up, 33 teams in the first day and 12 of those in the last hour. Posts are now on here, KritzKast (blog, not podcast yet), SPUF, and Reddit.
- # - nice! +0It’s on the official TF2 blog! www.teamfortress.com/post.php?...
