After a hopefully dignified Christmas and a happy New Year’s Eve celebration it is now time to work on your New Year’s resolutions. One of mine was to host and admin more Team Fortress 2 competitions.
We are happy to announce the fifth sponsored Team Fortress 2 tournament at Excello – this time with a fresh and new sponsor. The upcoming tournament is sponsored by the graphics chip manufacturer SPARKLE and the winner of the invitational tournament will receive six SPARKLE GTS 450 1024MB 128bit DDR5 One Slot graphics cards.

We have no imagination so we came up with a very poor joke (Credit for the picture goes to evokje)
We had the impression that our previous tournament structure that involved an invite-only tournament and an open tournament where the winner qualifies for the invitational tournament is well-received within the community so we will keep it as long as a significiant amount of people starts to moan.
The signups for the open tournament, held on Monday, January 9, are open from now on until the check-in starts. The maximum slots are 64. If it becomes conceivable that we will not have significantly more than 32 signups, we will reduce the slots to 32. Keeping 64 slots means the first round starts with the recently added official new 5cp map cp_foundry. Reducing the slots to 32 means the first round will start with cp_granary, the second features cp_badlands and so on.
The list of the invited teams for the invitational bracket that will be played on Monday, January 16 is:
- 1
Epsilon eSports - 2
Infused.Tt eSports - 3
Crack Clan - 4
Team Dignitas - 5
Relic - 6
CKRAS Gaming - 7
broder - 8
Team Yoyotech - 9
Exotic
The teams from this list are hereby invited and have time until Sunday, January 8 to sign up. The top 7 that signed up will make it to the invitational cup. After January 8 it will be “first come, first served” for the remaining invited teams. The teams that do not make it straight into the invitational tournament can still sign up for the open cup to fight for the last spot. If you feel that we overlooked your team but you are doing fairly well against most of the teams mentioned above, apply for an invitation at any admin (see below). Keep in mind though, that you will apply for the 10th spot, therefore your chances of actually making it into the cup are rather slim. In order for your team to appear in the Invitational Cup three teams from the list of invited teams will have to drop.
Please familiarise yourself with the cup rules for the open cup and the invitational cup. You are allowed to use one merc if your opponent agrees. Golden cap rounds for all best-of-one rounds last only 5 instead of 10 minutes to keep the schedule (this obviously only applies to the open challenge).
All teams are again required to check in via click on this very website. The check in will start at 19.00 CET for both tournaments. The fixtures will be generated around 19.30 CET.

Okay see what happens when people do stuff like this, huhy? Now nobody knows what you’re talking about and they think it’s some sort of horrible joke.

I would like to say that Excello plans to keep supporting Team Fortress 2 in the future, eventually even adding more types of tournaments for it.
We believe that our TF2 tournaments are a highlight of ours, despite not having as big number as other tournaments, and vow to keep supporting it competitively.
It is a shame to come here and read several posts of people saying the game is\will be dead: it is an interesting game to play (for complete noobs like me :) and follow and it has a committed, mature community – specially comparing to games such as CS and CS:Source.
I would like to thank VanillaTF2 for their continued coverage of TF2 and our tournaments as well a s our admins for their hard work in our events. Also obviously thanks to ZOWIE GEAR and SPARKLE that make events such as this possible.
Forget the haters they’re just mad they need to go out and get a job to fund their hobby. Keep it coming!
well said tomahawk.
couldn’t agree more, great stuff. i can’t wait for the tournament!
- # - nice! +2Great post these cups are always awesome!
- # - nice! +1as a North American who purely spectates 6v6 atm, I find these cups really interesting, thanks alot for hosting them!
- # - nice! +7I bet Buttercunt loved the ‘mature community’ bit, eh? :D
- # - nice! +1Casting by vanillatv?
- # - nice! +0We’ll endeavour to cast as much as possible, but probably mainly the ‘Invite’ portion of the cup.
- # - nice! +2here I thought I was responsible for the worst cup art in TF2! Canfo has to top everything :(
- # - nice! +3I do not come in second. It is either first or last! Although I am not responsible for the piece of art, only for the poor joke.
- # - nice! +2Love it!
Word on the streets say one of those cards has Zebbosai’s name on it. Time to bend over and take it like boys, Epsinoobs!
- # - nice! +4In the open tournament, if round 1 is skipped does the tournament begin @ 20h45 or 20h00 ?
- # - nice! +020.00! It will start at 20.00 no matter what. The semi-final will be moved to 23.00 if we will have 64 slots (with the option to play one or two days later, if both teams agree).
- # - nice! +3I added two alternative schedules to the tournament page now to make it more clear: www.excello.net/tournament/147...
This time you win, Canfo…
