There are a busy couple of months coming up in the TF2 calendar, with the Highlander Nations Cup, the 6v6 Nations Cup, and i46 all on the horizon. Due to this, we’re looking for a reliable person to join the VanillaTV team to specifically deal with external promotion.
Your role will include (but not be limited to):
- External promotion of events and matches via Official VTV Twitter, Reddit (for example)
- Liasing with the Floor managers for promotion
- Creating content specifically for promoting VTV
- Introducing ideas for further promotion
Ideally, you’ll be a self motivated, reliable individual, able to work as part of a team and with previous promotion experience, although this isn’t essential as long as you feel you can bring ideas to the table.
Perks will be provided to the right candidate who fits in well with the team.
If you think you would be a valuable addition to VanillaTV, hop onto Quakenet IRC, join #vanillatv and message Byte (please note, if it’s a weekday, message Byte-me|Work), Trell, Leftism or Comedian for more information. Thanks for reading!

- # - nice! +0Oh look no one cares. Standard shit scene.
SC2 has a good scene, although it is actually a good game. Let’s move there, I’M ALMOST DIAMOND
- # - nice! +3The problem with SC2 (at least in WoL, it might be different when HoTS is released) is that it’s actually just an incredibly boring game to play day in day out. Sure 2/3/4v4′s are fun, but not all the time. Unless something changes drastically, SC2 is a bubble that’s going to pop in the not to distant future. Viewer numbers have been dropping since November last year.
- # - nice! +5I don’t think it’s going to ‘burst’ so to speak, there will always be people watching it and more than likely always a demand for it. Starcraft isn’t a flash in the pan game.
- # - nice! +3Dunno, I’m getting addicted to it. I spent the last two weeks watching sc2 in gsl every morning if it was on. I think I have probably watched one tf2 game in 4 years apart from @ LAN. Maybe my half asianess is why I like sc2 xD. And my half whiteness dooms me to always be platinum :(
- # - nice! +0nice fake offline
- # - nice! +0Ye definitely. I circumvented the firewall at college JUST so I could watch GSL on my laptop every morning. :D
SC2 is a fun game to watch, it’s just not a very fun game to play. As I say, the casuals have gotten bored and left in droves over the last ~9 months. There were 3 consecutive tournaments in a row (3 weekends in a row that is) last October that all posted higher viewership figures than anything in the last 6 months aside from the most recent MLG event.
- # - nice! +0Everybody cares, everybody understands.
It’s just that not everybody has the time and/or qualifications for a job like this.
- # - nice! +7That’s utter bullshit and you know it.
- # - nice! +6Wait, so all of a sudden you need a degree in using twitter/facebook/youtube/forums/the entire internet? Also while I agree that some people don’t have the time, theres people in the TF2 community that do. However they decide not to do it, the question is why?
- # - nice! +2No, but you have to be able to write well (and possibly speak well). But hey, I’m sure people will be eager to watch VanillaTV after reading an article about how Team X is going to win Team Y.
- # - nice! +1exactly…
While I have the time and I would love to get involved I’m also afraid I’m going to get dismissed as a nobody or div6 shitter.
- # - nice! +1Honestly I like writing and I “can into photoshop”, just not a PR kind of guy.
VTV is continually open to writers/casters/other types of contenters. The advertisements come about when we feel we are being specifically hindered by a lack of personnel in a particular area.
- # - nice! +2Again.
This is a common misconception.
We’re NOT after some photoshop guru. Get that idea out of your head and re-evaluation weather you think you’ll be good enough.
- # - nice! +1Ladies please….
- # - nice! +3Guys PR is the shorthand for Pirate Radio, we’re gonna need you to change the title of this job please.
Right my router has stopped playing up so I’ll run down each of the points Trell has made in his post for you guys – if you’re not interested in walls of text then ignore this comment. But then again if you’re the type of person to skip walls of text then you’re not the type of person we’d consider for this role, anyway.
:: External promotion of events and matches via Official VTV Twitter, Reddit (for example)
This is a nice easy one. Basically a writer/floor manager makes a post and if they’re rushed (which certainly has been the case these last couple of casts) then you’d be responsible for making sure people see the post.
So basically going through our regular channels like Reddit, Twitter, ETF2L, SPUF and Steam Community and making sure people know we have shit going on. Manning the VTV Twitter account maybe considered as well as actively saying stuff like “People getting together a cast for XvsY in the works. Watch this space” etc can build up hype – or at least it did when I did it before I got a job, that is. :(
:: Liasing with the Floor managers for promotion
Same as above really.
:: Creating content specifically for promoting VTV
This can be in either writing or through pictures. Basically content which is going to create hype for whatever we’re doing be it a single match or a whole night of casting or maybe a tournament – like the nations cup or the Premiership playoffs.
:: Introducing ideas for further promotion
This is quite the vague one, imo. But still it sums up parts of the role nicely. Basically either creating or envisioning an idea that could help us out promotional wise – things like “We should do this on our website” or “we should do this on our stream” are some examples – photoshopping ability would be desired although not required. :)
On relation to the last two points – photoshopping and article writing aren’t the only methods of promotion. Like I said before there’s always Twitter, maybe liasing with someone within Valve to help you out –
Hopefully this has given you some ideas on what we’re after. If not, I’ll try and answer your questions here. :D
If you’re still with me then VTV will offer the following for you to achieve promotional goals such as e-mail addresses for contacts within Valve (Blog writers, Technical staff, etc) as well as people within our own staff with contacts to companies such as twitch.tv and own3d for promotional needs on that end (getting our stream to the front page for important casts, etc).
There are many ways in which we as a Staff team can help you if you want to take this role on – there is no qualifications or “getting people to know you” kind of stuff – we can sort that out for you.
Hopefully my post has created some confidence for those that wish to apply. Like I said, anymore questions just reply to this comment or leave me a message in IRC (“Leftism” or “Lefty|Away”.)
Love,
