As far as National teams are concerned, there is no bigger fixture in the TF2 calendar. That’s right, the ETF2L 6v6 Nations Cup Grand Final between
England and
Sweden is going down live tonight on VanillaTV! Serving as a taster for big things to come in Season 13, the summer tournament has thus far been a rousing success and both teams will no doubt be giving it their all in an effort to take home the $1234 cash prize generously offered by
Angel.
The two teams haven’t met since the last ETF2L Nations Cup all the way back at the tail end of 2009, where Sweden emerged victorious in the semi-final with close 4-3 and 3-2 wins on cp_badlands and cp_granary respectively. Times have changed since then however, and as such, so have both rosters. With that in mind, let’s have a look at what to expect tonight!
We’ll be dual casting tonights game – read on for more information!

Pre-tournament favourites England reach the final after a slight wobble against
Denmark last week; the Danes caused problems on certain maps, but ultimately the English were able to show their superiority and pull out a comfortable win. The only other real test England have faced so far has been
Germany, a narrow, hard-fought match that ended 4-3 in their favour on both maps. With regards to their lineup, England are sticking with the tried and trusted six that have got them this far (save for their group stage game against
Hungary where Fish subbed in), featuring
TwistedPlay’s Boomeh and Greg, alongside
Decerto scout Stark. It’s hard to pick out one to watch in this team, but if Numlocked is on his usual impressive form, then his opposite number will have to play his very best in order to keep up.

The Swedes paved their way to the final after beating a Kritz-happy
Russian team in an epic 3 map showdown, as well as triumphing over two-time, current reigning ETF2L champions
Finland in the playoffs. Sweden will also be feeling a massive morale lift from their success against
USA in the semi-final last week. Star soldier Jukeboxx and the ever-modest Zebbosai have been dominant as a soldier pairing throughout the entirity of the cup, and one would expect them to make a real difference in tonight’s match, so keep an eye out for them. Although the Blågult might not be favourites for this match, a win for them would certainly not be surprising to anyone, especially considering their form in this tournament as well as their sky-high confidence.
I caught up with team leaders
Zebbosai and
Numlocked to get their thoughts on tonight’s match:
Zebbosai: I think we’ve got a good chance to beat England. Individually, I think 5 of our players are better then theirs but of course Lynx doesn’t have the same amount of experience as the rest so we gotta help him out focus down Numlocked and we should be able to take this. We have a lot of fun when we play together which has helped us get far in the tournament, and of course we have a really strong team. The only team that I was worried about on paper was Finland and we already beat them. As for our game plan, we’re just going do our normal stuff and try to focus down their demo a bit more then usual maybe.
Numlocked: I think we’ll do very well tonight. On the few occasions we’ve practiced against them it’s gone very well in our favour, so if that’s anything to go by I’d say we’ve got a good chance. Zebbosai could have a big impact for Sweden. He’s gonna be looking to shut me down a lot. As for strategy, I’m just going to call something as and when I see fit for a change in our normal gameplay. Or just send Greg for backcaps, that works.
The fact that both teams are so equal makes this one of the most exciting upcoming matches. Be sure to join
Admirable,
djc and
Comedian dual casting alongside
Pledge,
Skully and
HeavyIsGPS on VanillaTV at 21:15cet tonight!

YOUR SUPPORT IS FUCKING SHIT ANYWAY M8
England to take badlands, Sweden to roll juke+wltrs sniper to mid on gully and snake and kill everyone.
- # - nice! +4I don’t know. Badlands really depends on how hard numlocked can carry, because Swedish scouts will eat up the England scouts.
- # - nice! +7lol no? england has greg

p.s: you know you’re a stuck up faggot if you say “they’re gonna look to shut me down” in your pre match statement
Arrogance and Egotistical are two separate meanings completely, what numlocked has said is truth in game, so why should he not state/alter it in words?
We all know it happens in game due to how he makes his calls, stuck up? Is something I wouldn’t associate numlocked with and that’s not a defence set up for him but as I’ve known him a long time he isn’t that so…
As for faggot well XD numlocked is one for playing LoL all the time :D
Cheers

are you joking? I said that because that’s what zebbosai does to me, and he/we even talked about it before. he even said he’s gonna be doing it in his own statement.
also, what the fuck is your problem?
retshock are you feeling threatened by seb? or angry because the community has finally caught out your BFF matnuN?
I only ask because seb’s statement is entirely valid – and truthful – and most people on here know that
why is everybody so angry at the moment :(
Best of luck to both teams, hope it’s a close encounter for both of us and the audience :)
Cheers

- # - nice! +3This cast is so retarded. I love it.
- # - nice! +5wp england. was fun to watch :)
- # - nice! +2good cast and good match. Congrats, England
- # - nice! +5good game! Congratulations to England.
Sadly the cast was dissapointing and mediocre at it’s best.
Too many gay “jokes” and bad sexual innuendos not to mention the random screaming from djc.
It’s a bit counter-productive when etf2l sets up keen rules for players with no fake nicking allowed “In order to maintain the level of professionalism” and then you tune into this childish cast and I feel a bit embarassed hoping that there are no people outside of the tf2 community watching this…
This was probably the best cast in ages. You should have tuned into pledge&skully stream if you felt offended.
I thought it was ace. RAT’S ASS
- # - nice! +6there were two casts for a reason.
But you’re so good when you don’t act silly!
- # - nice! +7This is the sort of feedback I like! I can agree with much of what you are saying Old_G.
I felt there were a lot of misses on my part and probably a limit to how much screaming adds to a cast.
I am curious as to which “gay” “jokes” did you find hard to digest.
Reference to the i46 kissing action?
Is it our exaggerated djc/ads bromance?
The creepiness of my misguided contribution to the slow/smooth round?
Suggesting that Byte was AFK chugging whiskey, smoking and jacking off?
As for the bromance, it’s fine as it doesn’t really distract from actual video-game-stuff as long as it’s talked about in pauses in action. The awful jokes are also fine imo (this is because I love awful jokes).
What deters from the casting is the screaming and overall silliness. This was a nations cup game. The grand final to decide which country is the best in the world. People from outside TF2 might be watching.
Also, you’re both awesome casters when you just do what seems naturally, the screaming and stuff seems to just be a bad gimmick that takes the place of actual hype or information.
I agree with the summary of the cast, but I still enjoyed it. Ads and Djc have a very unique style that won’t float everyone’s boat. The majority of the cast was entertaining, though there were a few cringe moments (for example, both casters screaming with incredible enthusiasm, at the same time, and then both stopping at exactly the same time, to leave this incredibly awkward silence for about 10 seconds).
But it’s an Ads and Djc cast… People in the TF2 community love the style, and a few people on the twitch chat seemed to enjoy it to. My concern would be with the non-tf2 players who have just switched over from the Tasteosis cast during the break to our Nation’s Cup Final, have come from a highly professional, yet entertaining cast, to er… a bit of a mess; entertaining or not.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cfa-QD...
Your point? lol
Listened to a few minutes of that, and it was awful. Trying way too hard to be funny, and sounding completely unprofessional.
I guess it comes down to what people want. For a game like SC2, the game doesn’t need to grow anymore. People can do or say what they please, as the game has enough die hard fans that a bit of unprofessionalism is probably quite refreshing for the community, and the damage is minimal.
With TF2, it’s hard enough trying to get people to take the game as a serious eSport where large corporate sponsors might get involved, when you’re killing people with a fish, have a black Scottish cyclops screaming and pelvic thrusting, and Unicorns and rainbows floating around the map. The game is already against the norm, has inbuilt comedy in the weapons and taunts; what we need is to show potential sponsors that while the game doesn’t look serious, it is highly competitive, taken seriously, and fills a niche in the competitive gaming scene that should be valued.
I feel TF2 casts should be performed in a similar style to the competitive 6v6 game. A competitive eSport, with some _moments_ of comedy and insanity… just like the gameplay.
woah there’s a fuck-ton of comments on here and I cba to read them all so apologies if I’m repeating shit but I basically agree with OG. I ended up turning you off and missing the game because the cast wasn’t particularly funny, entertaining or informative.
I’m hardly the type to be offended, but I can certainly be bored :p I think you’re better with less random bs and more structure
I hope to fuck I haven’t just agreed with arx otherwise I’ll end up using unlocks or some shit ;/

- # - nice! +2Great cast which was really fun to watch aswell.
- # - nice! +0Also, is it going to be possible to watch the live casts on a mobile device at some point?
GGWP to both teams and gratz to England!
if you get the twitch app you can watch the stream via that
- # - nice! +3It’ll work without the app, but neither the site nor the app is entirely reliable.
- # - nice! +2Why does DJC have no pic??
Also great cast! Admirable really killed it this time IMO
- # - nice! +3Killed is good right?
I can’t keep up with this cool kid lingo.
Sick work guys.
- # - nice! +7I have a few words of advice for the Swedish team next time around.
You’ve got to hold and give, but do it at the right time. You can be slow or fast, but you must get to the line. They’ll always hit you and hurt you – defend and attack. There’s only one way to beat them: get round the back. Catch me if you can ’cause I’m the England man and what you’re looking at is the master plan.
I hope this helped

- # - nice! +7Good work, boys!
- # - nice! +0GG enjoyed it!
Numlocked carrying like a boss.
- # - nice! +4Will there be VODs? I always enjoy those :)
- # - nice! +0Arx nails it. The last paragraph really explains how I try to make my commentary feel to the audience. He said it above, let me quote it here:
“I feel TF2 casts should be performed in a similar style to the competitive 6v6 game. A competitive eSport, with some _moments_ of comedy and insanity… just like the gameplay.”
IMO it’s the best of two worlds and it fits the TF2 style very nicely. I didn’t listen to djc + ads from last night yet, but I will throughout the day and see what I think about it.
From what I heard within the VTV staff channel there’s quite a bit of discussion about all this, which is always a good thing. Thanks to everyone who watched the cast from myself and Skully, really appreciate the support :) <3
- # - nice! +4Anybody have demos?
- # - nice! +0Since Smegma told me Pledge sounds like Kermit, I cannot concentrate on the game anymore. Oo
Skully sounds too excited about everything during game, it felt like I was watching Independence Day on USA patriotic steroids.
HeavyIsGPS is the worst streamer I have seen for quite some time. I have no problem when caster misses headshots, dropped ubers and similar cool stuff (because I understand how hard streaming can be), but he was clicking around way too much, especially during some huge action scenes. I had no idea what was he trying to do, but it wrecked the cast too many times. Going through walls, objects and watching Medic at spawn who is not even near combat, was also a problem.
Apologies guys, just my 2 cents. :/
- # - nice! +5There’s no need to apologise. Streaming is an art-form, where the best feedback you can hope to get is to be completely ignored and the worst is to be publicly abused.
The thing that makes casters like Pledge & Beta (in particular, not an exhaustive list, don’t get upset) exceptional is the ability to express the tempo of the game through the various levels of their voices. It’s not something you learn easily, I’ve tried and found it extraordinarily difficult to do.
Skully does suffer from having only one mood (which is the mood of a hyper active child after a gallon of E101) but being along side Pledge I have every faith that he’ll be able to learn how to tone it down when the situation demands.
gg wp england
- # - nice! +2gg wp Sweden, some excellent performances by a few of the swedes.
I don’t have access to src tv’s or stats as it was played on the BFF server, so anyone requesting speak to Kaidus/Zebbosai/Darn.
