i45: Good LAN / Bad LAN

May 7th Lan Coverage

Skyride — One upon a time there was a website called cadred.org who used to do the odd bit of coverage for our beloved game. Back when new unlocks were met with excited anticipation and we still thought cp_well was good, that was the site you’d go to for results, articles and news for all things LAN in the world of TF2. While we now have this amazing site – VanillaTF2 – there are still many things I miss about cadred. For me personally, it was the Good LAN / Bad LAN following every major LAN event, so here is my own attempt to bring it back/

Good – TF2 Community
These days it almost goes without saying, but our community is truly a thing to behold. Not so much the troll-infested online conglomerate of DM-obsessed teens that seem to make up a sizable portion of ETF2L these days, but the LAN attending regulars and newcomers. While winning an MGE duel online may result in a flood of Cyrillic characters, at LAN it’s very likely to earn you a free beer and a good laugh. Whether it be Greg’s overly complex drinking games, Tapley’s infamous jungle juice, or a room of 2 dozen drunks plus Comedian casting another dozen people playing a new custom map at 2am, it’s impossible to not have a great time.

The community photo is truly the epitome of how this community works. The fact that nearly a hundred loosely organised gamers can come together at a specific time with only a few hours notice for something seemingly trivial just goes to show what a tight-knit bunch we really are.

Trell — The time is upon us – or will be in a matter of mere hours.  Insomnia gaming festival has come around once again, and the usual precursor to the larger Summer installment is once again showing some love to our favourite FPS.

Tapley is once again your tournament host, with up to 4,800 GBP in the prize pool, as well as highly coveted i46 tickets for the eventual winners.  If, like me, you’re missing out on attending, don’t worry, because we have you covered.  On site streaming will be provided by  Comedian, with  Pledge,  Byte,  CUBE and Bones inside the lan as part of our coverage team.  I’ll be reporting as much as I possibly can via articles too – so you don’t feel left out.

The tournament is scheduled to start at 6pm local time (so 7PM CET) on the Friday with the group stages, the elimination stages on Saturday, and the Grand Final on stage at 1pm on the Sunday.

I have this quote direct from Tapley to pass on to you lovely people:

(trans continental opponents may be visitng us also at i46 :D) so if people want to know what to expect at i46 tune in to VanillaTV this weekend and the finals cast on sunday to enjoy the atmos!

Fog — With only a few days left until the TF2 ESEA-Invite LAN finals, the broadcast and game schedule has finally been released!

In what is looking to be another exciting LAN with Quantic Legacy, Classic Mixup, The Experiment, and High Rollers Gaming TF2, the wait is almost over. With the prize pool of over $10,000 for TF2 alone, this is one of, if not the biggest prize pool ever for a TF2 tournament. The ESEA LAN coverage starts tomorrow from 7:30pm EST/01:30 CET with a Play With The Pros event for CS 1.6, CS:S, and TF2, followed by CS 1.6 and CS:S matches with TF2 matches starting on the Saturday from 11:00am EST/17:00 CET.

For this LAN, there will be not one, but TWO sources of TF2 LAN Coverage for us to divulge on. The first source comes by way of ESEA with the ESEA Orange stream, a TF2 dedicated ESEA stream being casted by eXtine from eXtelevision along with some special guests along the way all day Saturday and Sunday. The second casting source comes from eXtv as well, but with community fan favourites cbear, Bloodsire, and Sigma taking the helm on eXtelevision’s main channel for matches starting from 4:30pm EST/22:30 CET Saturday and the Grand Final Sunday. More information can be found for the eXtelevision casts here: http://www.extelevision.com/esea-lan-coverage-press-release/

The full ESEA article and schedule is after the jump.

Torden — Update: Congratulations to Dashner, for taking the victory!

It’s been smooth sailing for favourites, the Prophets featuring Dashner (previously eMazing Gaming), on an unbeaten way to the finals. The same can’t be said for Classic Mixup, who managed to turn finalist at the 11th hour, beating the Experiment in the lower bracket final. This sets Pyooor’s boys up with a 3rd place, a respectable position, albeit an upset with the team having plowed through Mixup earlier the same day, and being predicted a coin toss showdown with Dashner. Area51 already landed a 4th place earlier in the evening.

The second game that is going to be played is The Experiment vs Classic Mixup. Starting at 8pm CEST, this one is being casted on the official ESEA stream, with eXtine as main caster.

Update: Both games have finished, will update when new games go live. (If I’m not asleep).

Congratulations to Epsilon eSports for winning the game of the year!

Martn — It’s Sunday morning, the Team Fortress 2 tournament at the Insomnia Gaming Festival for Summer 2011 is almost over, every match has been played, except the final. By now we know  Team Dignitas came up short with it’s mix of old and new age members, ending up at the fourth place and that TCM Gaming, just like last year, ended up third place.

We also know that there have been another 44 teams eliminated, but it not about that, it’s about the final, the grand final between  Epsilon eSports and  Infused.Tt. The one question on all of our minds is: Will Infused.Tt be able to do, what Epsilon eSports almost managed to do last year?

YoungBlood — Heyooo. A quick update regarding i43. Many games have been played the last two days and there’s only 4 contenders left in the fight for eternal LAN glory. To nobody’s surprise the teams left are: Dignitas, Epsilon, Infused and TCM. What might make some of you raise an eyebrow is the fact that Dignitas find themselves in the lower bracket after losing to TCM in the winner bracket semi final.
