ESA Open Cup #1, aftermath, VODs and Epsilon +1

Arie — After a very long day, the first ESA cup has come to an end. The first proper online TF2 tournament in a long time had some technical difficulties; the tournament system determined that it was finished after 2 rounds of play and promptly terminated itself. This messed up the brackets for a couple of hours, making life miserable for the casting orgs, the teams and most of all the ESA admins. Thanks to some heroic efforts of them it all worked out in the end.

Despite those initial problems, we saw some great matches. A couple of rolls (anything involving Epsilon), an upset (Furbo Pandas vs 4/25)  and an amazing semi-final. All the VODs will be posted on our Youtube playlist ASAP, here’s our VODs so far:

VanillaTV – ESA Open Cup #1 – Quarter Finals – Zaibatsu vs RLM – Snakewater

VanillaTV – ESA Open Cup #1 – Semi Finals – Zaibatsu vs Broder – Process [Map 1]

VanillaTV – ESA Open Cup #1 – Semi Finals – Zaibatsu vs Broder – Gullywash [Map 2]

VanillaTV – ESA Open Cup #1 – Grand Finals – Epsilon vs Broder – Badlands [Map 1]

VanillaTV – ESA Open Cup #1 – Grand Finals – Epsilon vs Broder – Process [Map 2]

TeamFortress.tv was also casting, their vods here.

Riding the high of a tournament win,  Epsilon Esports has decided to pick up the medic they were playing with,  Raymon. This former div2 medic is joining as a backup medic initially, but if Epsilon Esports sticks together after i49, there’s a very high probability he’ll be their main medic. It’s great to see a player outside of the usual premiership ranks being picked up to join the number one team in Europe and we wish him all the best!

In other Epsilon news, they’ve taken some cues from Crack Clan and Broder, and have started a dedicated streaming channel. Chadtopia will be their streamer and should cast all their matches. Chadtopia would appreciate some feedback on his casting, so when you see that channel live, make sure to tell him how much you appreciate the time, effort and continued support of Epsilon eSports.

Arie — After a long and rather succesful run, it looks like the EU TF2 team of Crack Clan is no more. The team name on ETF2L was changed to Zaibatsu, the Crack Clan CEO was removed as a leader and the active players detagged.

Teamleader  ipz confirmed that the team is no longer playing under the Crack Clan banner and that they’re looking for a new org. He denied their search for a new organisation is due to a lack of funding/LAN support from Crack Clan.

A VanillaTF2 spy birdy already told us  Zaibatsu is in contact with an organisation, unfortunately the bird has no Dignity and reFused to name the cool team out of fear of being k1cked by its Fnatical owner. Regardless of  Zaibatsu finding a new sponsor in time, they will be attending i49.

Crack Clan had the following to say about the European team leaving:

On the whole Crack Clan have been really happy with the prem team, however it’s recently become apparent that now is a suitable time to part ways. Crack Clan are by no means out of e-sports but we need an evaluation time to decide the best way to move forward. We wish the ex-cc team the very best in the lead up to i49 and will be rooting for them no matter what. The CC Youtube will continue to make great content but with a host of guest commentators and features; stay tuned!

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, the American Crack Clan team is also no longer part of the organisation and is now known as Immortal 6, a name you might recognize, they joined Crack Clan less than 3 months ago.

Former  Crack Clan Yellow player CranCarry had this to say:

We, as a team, thought it would be best to just step down because we couldnt provide the things they were asking for. an example of that would be them asking us to making a frag video for cc.  in all honesty, between scrims and school/work/hobbies outside of gaming, we simply could not find the time to go through all of our demos and get ticks to provide an editor info to make it. We planned to do so, but scrims, esea, everything else in between it was just asking too much too soon from us

So where does this leave Crack Clan? They’ve been a big name in our little scene for a while, especially their latest premiership team. We’ve seen the team stream with comms, demo packs, team configs and youtube videos, they can’t provide those things without an actual team, so will they try to find a new premiership level TF2 team? ipz has said he’ll continue to release videos about competitive play on this channel, so it looks like you won’t have to wait long for your fix of lame hiding spot videos.

In my opinion, any team would be lucky to pick these guys up, good luck to  Zaibatsu with finding the right organisation for them!

May 29th Announcement

Byte — Tonight we see a battle of the points, for both teams in this case. The way Crack Clan see it, broder dropped points to Epsilon, thus meaning Crack Clan can potentially still end up 2nd or 1st but to do this, they must squeeze out all 6 points from the lower teams.

On the other hand SOLAR, will be looking to steal some points off Crack Clan, as their fight for survival in prem is always going to be under threat. Realistically and on paper Crack Clan should sail through, but never count out SOLAR, they have some fine individuals who may just shine and could make the difference.

The Rosters

 Crack Clan

Medic –  2nuts
Demoman –  Brego
Soldiers –  Ipz and  T-Mac
Scouts –  TviQ and  Smzi

 SOLAR

Medic –  Vanilla
Demo –  lalli
Soldiers –  hycz and  qnx
Scouts –  maidu and  cor

For those that don’t remember this match, SOLAR managed to sneak 3 points off Skidmark Central last week, which keeps them in the hunt for the playoffs and to stay in premiership next season.

Crack Clan will be going for a quick and easy 6 points and possibly trying to finish the maps before the end of the 30minutes. Find out tonight for an action packed match between these two, with VanillaTV casting at 21:15cet with none other than SuddenlyStarMia and Byte, alongside HeavyIsGPS directing.

Help Crack Clan seduce Twitch John

April 22nd Announcement
Tagged: crack clan stream twitch

Admirable — Over at Castle Crack we are always concocting hare-brained schemes to raise those elusive LAN funds. We’ve developed a myriad of income streams that have Wall Street clamouring for our attention, but we would never sell out to those fat cats.

We started out trying to deliver some Premiership level content, albeit intermittently, but thankfully the response from the community was good. So the next challenge was “How can we convert that in to sending TviQ to Telford?” I mean you wouldn’t believe the cost of an international nanny for five days!

On our portal at crackclan.com Google Ads trickle a few pennies in to our coffers, although significantly less when I don’t bother my arse to keep writing battle reports and content. More recently you might have noticed the revival of our YouTube channel and the launch of the Crack Clan Store, again more ruthless attempts to cash in on your love for all things Crack Clan.

So continuing on this theme of transparency, I’d like to ask you all to lend me your cursors and help Crack Clan get partnered on Twitch. As you may be aware, the benevolent Twitch John often bends over backwards to support Team Fortress 2 from his heavenly perch atop the pantheon of eSports; so this is definitely a reality. We are aware Twitch isn’t some sort of cash cow, but it is an avenue we are keen to explore.

April 13th Announcement

Admirable — Friday’s journey through taste and hypertext left a lot to the imagination, so I returned today in a much more stoic fashion. Yesterday I was targeting your inner child, today I am feeding data in to your cold robotic gaming exterior; prepare for a presentation of facts that may interest you.

Tip of the Hats is the brainchild of Sean “seanbud” Stradley, the popular American streamer, Fully Torqued scout and all round nice guy. At its heart the event aims to raise funds for the remarkable One Step Camp organisation that gives children coping with cancer a chance to experience childhood and close community at camp.

At the time of my last post the totalizer was hovering around the $200 mark. As I clatter keys here today I see the total has rocketed past $2200… and the stream hasn’t even gone live yet. Stop looking all self-satisfied, Europe. This happened whilst you were asleep. I don’t think we can take credit for this one.

We might have lost to those North American hackers back in August at i46, but we can surely flex our monetary muscles today with a wave of donations. I’m issuing a challenge: double it! I want to see $4500 before the clock strikes midnight in Europe. If we come up shorter than a harbleu rocket jump, I think we might as well not bother showing up for i49.
