gaal the Hamster — It seems like Season 10 was just yesterday, but here we go again. 2 of the top TF2 teams are going to play it out, for what will probably decide first, second, and third place at the end of the season.

For some strange reason,  Epsilon and  Crack Clan have decided to play their week 2 match ON TIME. ( Prem players lost their minds this season? ) I have not heard of any rumors as to what is happening, though if it were to be my guess, both teams probably feel they have been playing well for the last couple of weeks, and so they want to play the match “at high”, rather than at a time when  Stefan or  Retshock wont be able to carry their teams.

Seeing how Epsi/CC/Infused are the top 3 teams right now that dont really have a good match to play except each other, this means you MUST watch this game. ( As opposed to say, oh I dont know, Epsi-Tryharders). If your looking to see the highest level of TF2, this match is it.

Furthermore, we have an awesome caster lineup going on, so you’ve got no excuse not to tune into VanillaTV at 21:15 CET to join  Greg and  ThePledge casting, with  Comedian running the stream.

ETF2L Premiership kicks off: Epsilon are not Tryharders

Trath — Well the first Premiership match of the season is here.  Who would have thought that Prem teams would actually play their games on time? It is a new age for TF2!  Truth be told – this dosen’t seem like an exciting match on the face of it; the defending champions Epsilon eSports are huge favorites, whilst the unproven Tryharders have a really, really small chance. But you know how it goes… it ain’t over til the fat lady sings.

Tryharders have been trying hard, playing a lot for the past two weeks.  They picked up Super Scouts  Longas and  EstaniS, as well as crazy jew demoman  Erectus.  While nobody thinks much of their soldiers, and most high level players dislike  Taimou‘s aggressive style of play, they are rumoured to be working on some oddball strategies that nobody has prepared for yet.   Epsilon have been on a roll for a very long time.  I cant remember the last time they lost a match, if ever.  Nobody can argue they are #1 right now.

VanillaTV have risen to the occasion at the last minute and will be bringing you a star-studded international extravaganza with eXtelevision’s  Salamancer, our homophonically amphibian friend from across the pond, who will be joined by our very own Admirable on the mic and Comedian on the streaming duties.  Turn on, tune in and drop out shortly after 21:00CET.

Last but not least, thanks to the TF2 streaming revolution you can also catch POV of fearless Finn, Taimou, and the Tryharder’s team comms over on TaimouTV, including their warm-up games right now!

Faint — The winner of the AntLion Audio ModMic is  Rinta for the couple of nice haikus she wrote, although it should be mentioned that  Sonny Black’s entry may have won if it wasn’t for 6 syllables in the first line (damn technicalities!). Ty to all those who entered, and gratz to Rinta!

CanFo — Tonight Team Infused and Epsilon eSports will battle out who gets six Sparkle GTS 450 1024MB 128bit DDR5 One Slot graphics cards, in the final of the invite bracket of the   Excello Sparkle TF2 Winter Warmup Tournament (I challenge the casters to read out this sentence without mistakes). I would like to take this opportunity to thank all teams that participated in both the open, and invite bracket, and made this tournament the biggest TF2 tournament at Excello so far with 52 teams participating. But now back to the final!

VanillaTV will be casting tonight’s match with  ThePledge and  nvc on the mics, with nvc running the stream as well. Casting will start shortly after 21:00 CET!

Faint — Tonight sees the start of the Invite bracket of the Excello Sparkle Winter Warmup TF2 Cup.

With the winner of last night’s open bracket   Karnage eSports gaining the 7th seed, they face off against  Infused.Tt. This gives the newly formed Karnage a chance to show what they can pull off against a top prem team.

Elsewhere  Crack Clan gets a chance to show themselves back in form against exotic, and  Epsilon eSports face  Team Decerto which should be a simple game for the former of the two (in theory at least).

The last of the quarter-finals features  Broder against  Yoyotech, which should be a cracking game and will give the newly promoted teams another chance to battle it out.

Hildreth — Welcome to part two of my three part article series documenting and reviewing the calendar year of 2011 in the world of competitive TF2. I would like to apologies to the Aussies, Africans and Asians for not really featuring you in these articles but I prefer to focus on the two main scenes which I actually know a something about. Anyway without further ado, I present to you the months of May to August of this year.

TL:DR – TF2 dies, gets born again and we have an awesome LAN.

Hildreth — 2011 was a great year for me personally; being the year of the ‘panda’ in the Chinese calendar – might have made that up, it could be a smaller animal with a likeness for orange vegetables – and has been one of the most eventful years, dare I say ‘THE MOST’ eventful year in our competitive scenes history. We have had the biggest LAN to date, TF2 going Free-2-play, launch of a new casting organisation and many, many great matches. It has also been a year of doubt and controversy. The slogan ‘TF2 is dead’ being printed on TF2 discussion boards everywhere and still being typed by many there has been dispute and frustration over unlocks, LANs and growth in the TF2 scene. There has been more gossip, controversy and drama than you’ll ever see on Maury. TF2 has changed – rising stars of TF2 have gone ’pro’, old pros have gone on the Brink of losing interest and leaving the scene. Coverage has changed and developed with new people writing articles, making videos, volunteering to cast or stream and hell we have even seen a new game mode start to become accepted in Team Fortress 2. To start it off I found a gem of an old-fashioned TF2 rant/commentary by  Foster with an actual positive outlook for 2011 and to steal a quote from it made by  Darn:

Unless TF2 gets a proper LAN tournament in 2011, it will be the last year.”

Make of that what you will.

It’s been a long year. I intend to go over it month by month highlighting the memorable matches, the big dramas and the key events that defined our scene this calendar year. To avoid a TL:DR fest I will split it up into 3 parts, one to release now, one of New Years Eve and the last part in 2012. I would like to apologies to those who do not follow the Gregorian calendar, if for example you are Jewish please re-read this again in 9 months.

Update: I had a meeting today with assembly organisers and it seems there will be no tf2 games at winter assembly. I keep you updated if theres some changes.

M0re — Winter assembly needs you. I’ve been in contact with the admins about the possibility to have TF2 at WASM. I’ve been told that theres less than 10% chance for it after horrible summer assembly. Hardly got enough teams to join the tournament and teams were honestly low-mid mixes. I’m now early to have chance to get TF2 a spot in and I need teams to confirm their attendance for me to have a finished list of at least 8 teams to present for assembly admins. Also I’ve been talking with Comedian about two casters to attend the event, if it happens, to get some streams going on for you fans out there.

Teams interested should contact CKRAS|M0re as soon as possible over on Quakenet or Steam.
