Over the past week, the European Team Fortress 2 League released their map pool for Season 12. Six maps in total, of which four were pre-decided. The other two though, which will be the focus point of today, were to be decided by a public poll. Gravel Pit, Croissant, Foundry, Turbine and Obscure (the snowy one) were the results of a nomination thread and were the options. To much surprise and criticism, Obscure and Gravel Pit won the poll with a clear margin. Today, I want to take a look at the results of the poll and answer two simple questions: “How did these results end up like they did?” and “Is a poll like this the best way to decide maps?”
The maps of tomorrow: Obscure_remake and Collis
Here’s two more maps that may define the future of our beloved competitive TF2. This week it’s the turn of seasoned map Cp_Obscure, recently having a face lift, and it’s designer
Byte. As well as him, there’s
Archy, the man behind Cp_Collis – a map, by comparison, not as well known but certainly doesn’t lack the potential.
As always, leave feedback to the creators, they really appreciate it!
Dignitas try to Crack (clan) Retshock and co
Tonight’s action on VanillaTV starts from 21:15 CEST with none other than
AcidRenix and
Beta taking you through what should be a fun game to watch. Team Dignitas, who during this 10th season of ETF2L, have played 2 matches and lost both, will take on Crack Clan. The half Israeli and half Spanish team are arguably a pretty tight cohesive unit, and work well together – they’ve played just one more game than Diggy, but have no losses to their name, winning 1 match and drawing the other 2.
If the combination of
Retshock‘s stickies and
Pescanova‘s crazy rockets can keep the threat of
cookye and
longas off their medic, then I’m sure this will turn out to be an interesting game.
Estanis and
HarryHook may be looking to prove something against longas, for Spanish pride among scouts – however, with the maps set as Obscure remake and Badlands, I wonder if Crack Clan will prove to be just 2strong, given their recent preformance vs Epsilon on the new Obscure last week. One things for sure,
hymzi as demo will need to try and get back to his best form for Dignitas to compete.

Rant weekend
To quote someone else, everyone gets their 15 minutes of fame. And to quote myself, I wish they didn’t.

On one hand, we’d like to continue to serve unedited and uncensored voices to the public. On the other hand this site’s purpose isn’t to be used as a shortcut to get undeserved attention for a common forum post. Thus, we’d like to tighten the noose a bit by collecting rants to published in the weekends.
To open this new era, your friendly neighbourhood
Shintaz, with some friendly neighbourhood rage towards Obscure. Go on:
The weird kid in the pool
Hey. Shintaz here, and I’m bored as fuck, so I’m going to write a rant. Not about numlocked’s terrible TERRIBLE gun names, not about Fisshu’s lack of skill and still participating in high level TF2 – not even anything about ESL Wire (well… maybe later). No, this is a rant about Season 8′s map pool.
I’m going to cut straight to the chase – who is that one kid in the pool? Who is that kid that needs to wear a noseplug, fluorescent swimming hat and bright yellow armbands? Well… without offending Byte, Codcrille or any other person that actually worked on this map (you probably would’ve guessed what it is now) – cp_obscure_final.
