Here’s another one, by  Telebear:

One of the biggest issues standing in the way of TF2 becoming a successful e-sport is not to do with sponsors, lans, or numbers of players, but rather its ability to be a game that is able to excite and entertain spectators, do this and the rest will follow.

Simply put, TF2 in its current format is a boring game to watch. It does not posses any of the qualities that makes other games an exciting prospect to watch, it does not have the speed or match pacing that a game such as Quake has, nor does it have the deep strategic depth that makes Starcraft so watch able.  TF2 is simply too slow and not in depth enough to ever be a spectator game in its current form.

“It’s just DM”

The charge laid at the feet of koth_viaduct and in the past, the mid point of cp_well. What does it mean? Is it true that these maps are so far removed from the standard Team Fortress 2 gameplay that all they promote is the random fragging of opponents?

Snowie takes on the discussion, with a comprehensive look at “then” and “now”, click “continue reading” for a well written article.

Lower bracket finals (Lower bracket)

It’s no secret that certain staff members on this site have been positively curious to see more of what Viaduct can offer. Tonight’s Monday Night Madness is now done, with Broder racing to the top, after a very aggressive and tight final again TLR.

We went on to ask the 4 semi finalists what they thought about the map.

It’s something new, and we enjoyed it. Dunno tho if its good for a league map. I’d like to see it as a decider map – Mvp, TLR

Fast paced, a bit sniper friendly but can be countered – still you can see very far and be very safe from some places… maybe a bit disturbing. until teams get proper tactics and experience on the map its gonna suck for the medic :P its quite easy to suicide from mid on attacking teams. Also, there are too many objects to get stuck on for a jumping soldier.Overall I enjoyed it. was a nice change and very fast paced. Can see it in s8 rather than maps like turbine, Coldfront or whatever maps are on the same list as viaduct as possible candidates. In my opinion, the love the Americans have for this map should be enough. Their experience is more worth than a one night cup. For us it was more team deathmatch :P – Sneis, Broder (In fairness, it should be known that Weqo did not like the map)

It was a very enjoyable map, with nice, tight and hectic battles - Xifi and Durin, Team Effort

I really like the map for 6v6. It encompasses everything I love about competitive tf2, and while it can degrade down into messy deathmatching I think this is mostly just because of the tempo of the map. To succeed, a team still needs all the basic faculties they need for badlands, granary, gpit etc, they just have to be able to think and move at a higher pace than they’re used to. If the map were to be played more, and teams became more comfortable on it. I can see it becoming the next Freight or Gullywash in terms of popularity despite being a new edition to the pool. – Kaidus, Team eMpathy

When we spoke to Seagull and Jaeger about maps this week, it was surprising to see how much love they gave Viaduct. Tomorrow night, you and your team get the chance to see if it really is such a great map – or if the culture difference between Europe and North America really does extend to loving or hating certain maps.

Signups open “today” (please update with specifics) , and the 2×16 team cup starts 20cet tomorrow. The tournament page
